Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minster Abdullah Ensour met on Tuesday with North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and an accompanying delegation to discuss ways of strengthening the partnership between Jordan and the alliance.

The Prime Minister also reviewed challenges in the Middle East and their impact on the region's countries, pointing out that Jordan is the country most affected by the decades-long regional turbulence, particularly due to the repercussions caused by the Palestinian cause, as well as the ongoing Iraqi and Syrian crises.

He stressed that Jordan is a small country with limited resources, but had set a regional model through the democratic and reform process and a policy of openness the Kingdom had adopted. However, he added, the kingdom needs the support of Arab and friendly countries to protect this model and strengthen it.

The premier noted that successive crises in the Middle East are due to a feeling of injustice, stressing that the region will not enjoy security and stability unless a just solution is found to the Palestinian issue.

He added that Israel must be compelled to implement the international legitimacy resolutions leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, according to the two-state solution.

The NATO chief said that he is visiting the Kingdom to participate in NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue ambassadors forum, which is being held as part of the celebration of the twentieth anniversary launching this dialogue.

NATO’s Mediterranean Dialogue was initiated in 1994 by the North Atlantic Council. It currently involves seven non-NATO countries from the Mediterranean region, including Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia.

Stoltenberg stressed the importance of the strategic partnership between NATO and Jordan, as well as the desire to expand cooperation between the two sides and develop it, expressing his appreciation for Jordan's positive role in laying the foundations of security and stability in the region.

He also reiterated NATO's support for all efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East and resolve the Palestinian issue based upon the two-state solution.
