Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, Thursday discussed with US Secretary of State John Kerry, the current developments in the Middle East, efforts to bring about peace in the region as well as regional and international efforts to fight terrorism.
The visit to Jordan is a part of Kerry’s tour of the region.
His Majesty stressed the importance of the US role in creating a relevant climate to reinvigorate peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution and the Arab Peace Initiative, leading to a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, which remains the crux of the conflict in the region.
The King said that Jordan is continuing coordination and consultations with all parties concerned in its efforts to revive peace talks that address all final status issues.
This, he said, requires an end to the Israeli unilateral actions and the repeated violations against the holy sites in Jerusalem, mainly those targeting the Haram Al Sharif compound and the Al Aqsa Mosque, noting that these practices are totally rejected due to the Hashemite Custodianship of the Holy Sites in Jerusalem.
King Abdullah said that there was no alternative to establishing an independent and viable Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital as it is the only means to achieving peace.
Kerry briefed His Majesty on the efforts by the US to achieve peace in the region and on its efforts within the international coalition to fight
terrorist organizations.
Kerry also expressed his appreciation for Jordan's role in supporting efforts designed to achieve peace in the region and fight terrorist ideologies.
The meeting was attended by the Royal Court chief, the foreign minister, the director of the King's Office and the director of the Intelligence Department.
