Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, Founder and Chairman of Generations For Peace, today welcomed seventy volunteer youth leaders from the MENA Region as Delegates at the Generations For Peace Amman Camp 2013. The ten days’ training is being organised with the support of the Royal Norwegian Embassy, who are the main partner for the Camp.

Recognising the Norwegian Government’s commitment to peace building in the region, and the Embassy’s significant support, HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein inspired the Delegates to rise to the challenge: “This Camp is a big investment by us, and our partners, in each of you. You have been selected because you have shown real potential and the passion to make a real difference. You are joining Generations For Peace on our path to lead change and transform conflict. You are joining our history, and preparing to make your own.”

This is Generations For Peace’ ninth international camp. The Delegates attending have been carefully selected from Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, and Yemen, reinforcing existing Generations For Programmes there, as well as from four important additional countries for the first time: Algeria, Egypt, Libya and Tunisia. This extends the reach of Generations For Peace to more than 8,300 trained volunteers in 50 countries.

HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein put the Camp into context: “We are painfully aware of the ongoing upheaval and suffering in our region. We share a deep concern for those issues of conflict and violence at the grass roots, affecting people each day in their communities. We want to promote greater understanding, tolerance and respect, to reduce violence and build sustainable peace. And we believe in the enormous potential of young people to play their part in creating a brighter future in their own communities”.

Mr Roar Haugsdal, First Secretary at the Royal Norwegian Embassy, commented: “The Embassy seeks to support organisations that can demonstrate innovation, impact and sustainability in their peace-building work. That’s why we are supporting Generations For Peace and this important Amman Camp, with its special focus on the MENA region. Our partnership together will benefit communities across this vitally important region, as these 70 Delegates follow the proven Generations For Peace methodology to change values, attitudes and behaviour to transform conflict”.

Sarah Kabbani Al-Feisal, Co-Founder and President of Generations For Peace commented: “The training will provide our Delegates with new knowledge and skills in conflict analysis, programme design, and the use of sport, arts, advocacy and dialogue for conflict transformation. They will also learn tools for monitoring and evaluation to measure the impact they are achieving. But our Delegates already bring such a wealth of experience as volunteers in their communities. We must commit to share and learn from one another. We can learn so much from diversity and from exchanging our experience and ideas.”

The last two Generations For Peace international camps were held in Sochi, Russia, so this is the first camp in Jordan since 2010, and is the very first to be hosted in Generations For Peace’ own Conference Centre facilities at its headquarters in Amman.
