Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Sunday reiterated Jordan's "firm" support for Egyptian authorities, emphasizing tat Jordan's stance rejects intervention in Egyptian internal affairs.

Judeh on Sunday held talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, who arrived in Amman on an official visit on Sunday, and discussed bilateral ties and developments in the region, particularly the Syrian crisis and the peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis.

During a joint press conference held in Amman, Judeh rejected any party's measures to tamper with Egyptian national unity and disrupt social cohesion, expressing hopes that conditions in neighboring Egypt will return to normal.

On his part, Nabil Fahmy thanked Jordan's official position and the stance taken by King Abdullah in clear support for the "Egyptian people."

He said during the press conference that his visit to Jordan, the first for the foreign minister to the region since he took office in the interim government following the ouster of Egyptian president Mohamed Mursi, is based on the firm and strong relations between Jordan and Egypt.

On regional developments, Judeh expressed Jordan's condemnation of the horrific massacre of Syrian civilians and the alleged use of chemical weapons, noting that the talks with his Egyptian counterpart discussed the need to hold party who committed the heinous crime responsible.

Regarding the high level international military meeting slated to be held in Amman in the upcoming days, Judeh said that the meeting will discuss latest developments in Syria and the region, aimed to boost coordination and cooperation between participating nations.

The meeting did not come as a reaction to the use of chemical weapons in Syria, but rather was a "regular" meeting coordinated months ago.

Top military officials from the US, Britain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Italy, France, Germany, and Canada will participate in the meeting.

Judeh expressed Jordan's concern over the alleged use of chemical weapons in neighboring Syria, but stressed that Jordan is prepared to confront such a scenario to protect its territories and people.

Judeh reiterated Jordan's position that fully stresses a peaceful and political solution to the crisis in neighboring Syria, and the need to preserve the social fabric of Syria.

Judeh also expressed Jordan's condemnation of the bombings in Lebanon that struck two mosques in Tripoli on Friday and left over 27 dead and hundreds injured.


The Jordanian Foreign Minister also reiterated Jordan's emphasis on a two-state solution, stressing that peace talks and a resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is in Jordan's best interest.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy arrived in Amman on Sunday in an official visit where he will meet with King Abdullah II and Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour to discuss bi-lateral relations.
