Former Mufti of the Kingdom passes away

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS--Former Grand Mufti of the Kingdom Sheikh Noah Al Qudah passed away early Sunday.

The 71-year-old mufti will be laid to rest in Ajloun today.

Al Qudah, who was born in 1939 was appointed as general mufti of the Kingdom upon a Royal decree that was issued on February 28, 2007.

In 1954 Al Qudah left to study in Damascus, Syria, at the Islamic preparatory and secondary schools of al-Jama'iyya al Ghurra'. He then attended the College of Sacred Law at the University of Damascus.

He graduated in 1965 and returned to Jordan where he joined the armed forces and became their mufti in 1972.

He then traveled to Cairo, where he received a masters degree from the prestigious al-Azhar University in 1980. In 1986, he received his doctorate from the University of Imam Muhammad ibn Saud in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Sheikh Al Qudah also served as Jordan's ambassador to Iran from 1996 until 2001.
