King, Queen leave on U.S. trip

Ammon News - AMMAN Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania on Saturday flew to the United States where the King will lead Jordan's delegation to the United Nations General Assembly session which runs till the end of the month.

King Abdullah will address the assembly and attend a Sept. 20-22 U.N. summit on Millennium Development Goals MDGs focusing on a strategy to reduce poverty by 2015.

The summit will reassess achievements towards meeting MDGs agreed by 192 nations by 2015 and seek to forge a vision to accelerate achievement of those goals.

His Majesty will also meet on the periphery of assembly in New York with U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and a number of heads of state and delegations for talks on cooperation prospects, developments in the Middle East and other international issues of common concern.

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Ibn Al Hussein took the oath as regent before cabinet members.
