Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Renowned Jordanian journalist and writer Radi Saddouq passed away Tuesday night at the Hussein Medical City in Amman at the age of 72.

Saddouq's funeral will be held after noon prayers on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 in the Mahatta Mosque in downtown Amman and will be buried in the Sahab cemetery.

Saqqouq was a pioneer in Arab journalism, and most recently held the position of editor-in-chief of Al-Alamiyya electronic journal.

He was born in Tulkarem in Palestine in 1938, and delved into journalism at an early age holding various senior positions at many Arab media outlets.

He worked as editor-in-chief of "Risalat Al Urdun" weekly formerly issued by the Jordanian Ministry of Information, "Humat Al Watan" of Kuwait's armed forces, and "Al Ayam," the first Arabic language daily newspaper published in Rome.

Saddouq later became the editor-in-chief of "Al Ra'ed Al Arabi" weekly journal, and established "Al Hadaf" newspaper in Kuwait in 1961 and "Al Bayan" journal, then worked as managing editor of "Al Watan" and "Al Siyasa" published in Kuwait.

He later joined Jordan Radio as a cultural advisor, and worked alongside others in the Qatar Radio and Saudi Arabian Radio, only to later contribute to the establishment of the Organization of Islamic Countries’ Radio Stations.

He held several other positions and memberships in writers’ and press associations.

Saddouqa wrote poetry, novels, and literary and historical studies. Among his published material is "Kana Li Qalb" [I Had a Heart] in 1962, "Tha'er Bila Hawiya" [Revolutionary without an Identity] in 1966, "Al Nar Wal Tin" [Fire and Clay] in 1966, "Amtar Al Huzn Wal Dam" [Rains of Sorrow and Blood] in 1978, "Riyah Al Sineen" [Winds of the Years] published in Rome in 1994, in addition to many others.

He contributed immensely to Arab literature with his main works in Arab Poetry in the 20th Century, "An anthological Collection of Contemporary Arab Poets" in 5,000 pages published in 1994 in Rome, and "Poets of Palestine in the 20th century: An Anthological Collection" published in 2001, among others.

Saddouqa's family will be accepting condolences and well wishers at Eibal Association near the 7th Circle for men, and in his house in Sports City district in Amman for women.
