Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government spokesperson, Ali Al-Ayed, underlined the importance of the participatory relationship between the government and media outlets, especially in light of the circumstances the Kingdom is going through, due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and its impacts on various important economic and vital sectors.

"We are partners in this difficult stage Jordan is going through," Al-Ayed said in a coronavirus briefing held Wednesday at the Prime Ministry, lauding various media outlets' role in spreading awareness among citizens on the seriousness of the pandemic and the importance of adhering to health and safety instructions and standards in terms of wearing masks, committing to physical distancing and using sterilizers.

He pointed out that the government, as part of its keenness to respond to inquiries and remarks of citizens and media outlets, will hold a press conference or a weekly briefing, stressing the government's commitment to openness and transparency, and the right of everyone to have access to information.

Regarding the government's actions to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, Al-Ayed said the government won't hesitate to take informed decisions, provide the media with information and facts up-to-date, and deal transparently and clearly with citizens.

On plans to impose a full curfew for two weeks or more, Al-Ayed reiterated that there is no intention to impose a comprehensive curfew for long periods, indicating that the matter depends on the extent of citizens' commitment to public health and safety measures and prevention.
