Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Tuesday discussed with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, who is visiting Jordan as part of a regional tour, aspects of cooperation between Jordan and UN agencies concerned with meeting the growing needs of the Syrian refugees.
The prime minister pointed to the heavy fallout of the coronavirus pandemic on the Kingdom's economy, education and health services, in addition to the high unemployment rates, stressing the importance of cooperation to reduce its impacts on citizens and refugees.
"Despite the difficult circumstances and the coronavirus crisis that the Kingdom is going through, Jordan will continue to provide services and healthcare to refugees across the Kingdom," the premier emphasized.
Razzaz indicated that Jordan holds heavy burdens given the limited support provided by the international community, underscoring the importance of extending additional support to the Kingdom to enable it to provide basic services to the refugees.
The UN official praised Jordan's role in hosting refugees and provide them with vital services, adding that his visit to the countries hosting the Syrian refugees is a message to the international community and donors to continue supporting host communities and refugees, especially in light of the ramifications of the COVID-19 crisis.
