Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The government is taking new measures to safeguard the health of people as it eschews resorting to blanket curfews, Minister of State for Media Affairs told a press conference at the Prime Ministry Monday.

The Cabinet held a meeting today to address the developments of the epidemiological situation and to stem the spread of the virus as the government decided to suspend school classes and begin remote learning; shutter cafes and restaurants as only takeaways and delivery services will be allowed; suspend prayers at mosques and churches; shutter popular markets.

The minister of local administration and the mayor of Amman will be responsible for regulating central markets as they will put in place measures that ensure limiting crowdedness, and uphold social distancing.

Competent authorities will crackdown on organizers of wedding parties, condolence homes and gatherings, and will hold flouters accountable and place them into custody for 14 days.

The decisions will be effective as of Thursday, September 17 and will run through for two weeks, Adaileh said.
