Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Jordan has developed the "Salamtk" website to start taking in applications of patients who wish to come to the country for medical reasons as 20 hospitals voice their readiness to receive medical tourists, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Majd Shweikeh said in a statement Sunday.

Shweikeh told journalists at the Prime Ministry that due to the rapid vertiginous increase in the number of people seeking medical treatment in the Kingdom, an overarching mechanism has been set forth to regulate the process of patients coming into the country.

She said that the stipulated measures have been jointly approved by the Ministry, Private Hospitals Association (PHA) and the National Center for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM). A patient wishing to receive medical treatment will have to submit an application along with their medical reports with the "Salamtk" website, following which, the hospital in which they were admitted will transport them in a private vehicle as hospitals' costs will be readily available on the website.

Each patient will be allowed to bring with them two people provided they can produce a certificate stating they are not infected with COVID-19, she continued, adding that a quarantine ward has been established.

She said that "a patient and their escorts have three options to choose from with regard to quarantine: to complete a hospital quarantine, return to their country or finish the remaining quarantine period in one of the hotels designated for quarantine," highlighting that all measures are subject to change.

The Minister noted that the World Travel and Tourism Council has declared Jordan a safe tourist destination, considering the classification an international recognition of Jordan's safe measures, and of its success in containing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
