Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Some 25 poor families in the Kasbah district in the southern Ma'an Governorate on Saturday received new housing units under a royal initiative to provide proper housing to underprivileged groups across the Kingdom.

The initiative, which was launched in 2005, aims to provide a decent and stable life to the most needy households in a healthy and safe environment and improve their living conditions.

Royal Court Chief, Yousef Issawi, who heads of the committee to follow up on the implementation of the initiatives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, handed over to the families the keys of the new homes, which were built according to the highest engineering and technical standards.

Issawi toured the houses, which were also furnished and provided with the various household and electrical appliances.

He told Petra that His Majesty constantly directs for the implementation of initiatives that contribute to improving the living conditions of citizens and providing them with quality services in the various sectors, including the "underprivileged families housing" initiative, which the King launched about 15 years ago and covered all the governorates of the Kingdom.

The Royal Court Chief said that despite the exceptional circumstances the Kingdom is currently experiencing due to the coronavirus pandemic, the King had directed for the distribution of the fully-equipped units to the beneficiaries from the initiative.

Ministry of Social Development Secretary-General Barq Dmour said that the royal initiatives underline the "true Hashemite approach of assisting underprivileged families and empowering them socially and economically."

These families, he said, were chosen according to transparent criteria as they live in extremely difficult conditions, and that they have no source of income, some are without a breadwinner and others have disabilities.
