Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Omar Razzaz on Tuesday chaired a meeting at the Finance Ministry and assured that a key feature of the 2020 state budget is that no new taxes will be imposed on the citizens.

He told the meeting, which was attended by the Minister of Finance Mohammed Al-Ississ, Minister of State for Information Affairs Amjad Adayleh and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Wisam Rabadi, that the general budget is an "economic map" with clear goals; enhancing financial and monetary stability, stimulating growth and no tax raises.

In a presentation of the draft budget structure and its key features, Razzaz stressed the need to bolster the mechanisms to address tax evasion within a complementary effort by all legal and administrative means that "reflects on the treasury and protects tax compliant citizens."

He said that the drafting of the 2020 budget came after a series of consultation sessions and dialogues with a vision of cooperation with the Parliament, ministries and government entities based on economic priorities that the government seeks to achieve next year.

"As directed by His Majesty the King, we should improve the living conditions of the citizens through better salaries and wages, more job opportunities and better education, health and transport services, which require upgrading performance and the structure, eliminating overstaffing and putting in place criteria that link public sector incentives with performance," he said.

He pointed out that the figures achieved in a number of sectors are "positive and promising," and that the employment figures pledged by the government have been met, adding that next year will witness an integrated program of employment, and will seek to make a "qualitative leap" in the priority services sectors of health, education and transport.

Finance Minister Al-Ississ reviewed the main features of the budget, stressing that capital expenditure will be raised by 28 per cent, the highest rate in years, "which is a real investment in economic stimulation and growth."

He said that the 2020 budget took into account the recently-launched stimulus packages which underlined that there will be no additional taxes or placing tax burdens on the citizens.
