Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Tariq Hammouri said national exports saw positive growth rates during the first nine months of 2019, which amounted to 7.8 percent.
In a press statement on Tuesday, Hammouri stated that on the monthly level, exports rose by 21.7 percent in September, noting that these numbers have not been achieved since 2014.
The most prominent trade partners were the European Union countries, the United States, Saudi Arabia and a number of Asian countries such as China, he added.
The minister pointed out that imports declined during the same period by 5.3 percent, citing the decline in imports of oil due to reasons related to the use of alternative energy. He said the trade deficit decreased by 13.4 percent during the same period.
Hammouri pointed to the Jordanian government's interventions to stimulate the industrial sector, which had a clear impact on the volume of exports.
The ministry supports industrial and service companies with the aim of exporting, he noted, adding that 97 agreements were signed to boost their competitiveness in international markets.
The minister pointed out that the rise of re-exported goods by 9.4 percent reflects the importance of transit trade.
