"The condemned Israeli measures against the holy sites in occupied Jerusalem inflame the feelings of Muslims and Christians in the Arab and Muslim worlds and only Israel will be responsible for the consequences", Safadi told the meeting.

The minister stressed the need for a concerted international community effort to solve the conflict according to the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on pre-June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Safadi appreciated the EU's position in support of the two-state solution and Jerusalem, which upholds international legitimacy as the governing reference for the resolution of the conflict.

The EU ambassador and other envoys affirmed support for the two-state solution as the only practical way to resolve the conflict according to international legitimacy resolutions.
