Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi, and his Swedish counterpart, Margo Wallstrom, on Tuesday, said both countries will continue to consolidate their partnership which aims at mobilizing financial and political support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to ensure that it continues to play its role in serving more than five million Palestinian refugees under its UN mandate.

In a meeting prior to the Stockholm Ministerial Meeting on the Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), the two ministers stressed the need for an effective international effort to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict according to the two-state solution as the only way to achieve comprehensive peace.

Safadi stressed the importance of the European role in efforts to achieve security and stability in the region, lauding Sweden and the European supportive position to the two-state solution.

Swedish Foreign Minister Margo Wallstrom emphasized the centrality of the Jordanian role in efforts to achieve security and stability in the region.

The Palestinian issue topped talks held by Safadi on the sidelines of the conference with Japanese Foreign Minister, Taro Kono, and Norwegian Foreign Minister, Ine Marie Eriksen Soreide.

Safadi underlined that any economic proposal outside the political context on the basis of the two-state solution will not achieve the comprehensive peace declared by the Arab countries as a strategic goal according to the Arab peace initiative and laws of the international legitimacy.

He said any economic proposal can not be an alternative for a political solution that ends the occupation on the basis of a two-state solution.

At the Stockholm Ministerial Meeting, which was attended by the Foreign Ministers of Germany, Japan, Norway, Finland and representatives from several European, Asian, African countries, Canada and Argentina, the foreign minister affirmed Jordan's position in calling for a free Middle East from all weapons of mass destruction.
