Jordan, Canada sign cooperation agreement to implement SEED project in Ajloun

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Four Jordanian charity organizations, on Saturday, signed cooperation agreements with the Canadian government to jointly implement the "Sustainable Environment and Economic Development (SEED) project in Ajloun governorate, 76 kilometers North West of Amman.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Hala Zawati, who sponsored the signing ceremony, highlighted the importance of focusing on and supporting charity associations through launching such pilot projects aiming at reducing the energy bill and upgrading local community development.

This project comes as part of 128 other projects implemented by SEED in collaboration with the Renewable Energy Fund, Zawati said , stressing the need to support such projects to include all other governorates.

Representative of the Canadian Embassy in Amman, Karen Molika, said that Jordan is the third country in the world to benefit from the Canadian Government's projects, adding her country aims at supporting poor and middle-class families, developing local communities, increasing household income and reducing energy bills.

The Director of Jordan Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF), Rasmi Hamza said our key target is to support renewable energy projects in the Kingdom, pointing that the cost of renewable energy project is approximately 22 million Canadian Dollars,10 percent of which was funded by Jordan, while 90 percent by the Canadian government.

During the ceremony, attended by Ajloun Governor and other senior officials, a documentary featuring the importance of implementing SEED project in the country was also screened .
