AMMONNEWS - The Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan, Andy Rachmianto, Wednesday underscored the importance of the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites and confirmed his country's support to Jordan's pivotal role to achieve peace and stability in the region.

During a press conference held on the 73th anniversary of Indonesia's independence day , Rachmianto expressed his country's gratitude for Jordan's humanitarian role in hosting millions of refugees, and highlighted the huge burdens the Kingdom is shouldering in this context.

The Indonesian-Jordanian relationship is based on a solid ground, he said, announcing the Joint Ministerial Committee has convened three meetings and the fourth is underway, and added a Joint Business Council will be held in Jakarta and Amman.

The envoy announced the Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, will visit Jordan before the end of the year and said the distinguished relations between the two countries have seen a noticeable development in the last years, especially after His Majesty visited Jakarta twice in 2014 and 2015.

Trade between the two countries increased by 15 percent in 2017 to hit $300 million and the aim is to achieve $500 million by the year of 2020, he pointed out.

As for the war on terrorism, the diplomat affirmed the two countries cooperate in this field.

On the Palestinian cause, the ambassador said Indonesia will always be a staunch supporter of the Palestinians to realize their full national rights and establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, stressing the Palestinian issue will always be at the top of the Indonesian foreign policy priorities.
