Arab FMs affirm support to Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem holy sites

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Arab foreign ministers affirmed support of His Majesty King Abdullah II's historic Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, which was confirmed by the agreement signed between King Abdullah II and President Mahmoud Abbas on 31 March 2013.

In a decision of the Council of the Arab League, held in Cairo under the chairmanship of Saudi Arabia, the ministers also stressed support to the role of Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf over Jerusalem endowments aimed to preserve the city's holy places.

At the end of their emergency meeting on Jerusalem last night, the Arab foreign ministers decided to keep the council of the Arab League in session and to return to the meeting depending on developments.

The ministers called on the international community, including the Security Council, to follow up implementation of its decisions, which affirmed that any actions aimed at changing the character, status or demographic composition of Jerusalem have no legal effect, null and void.

Arab foreign ministers also called on all states to refrain from establishing diplomatic missions in the city of Jerusalem, a final status issue that must be resolved through negotiations in accordance with the relevant Security Council resolutions.

The Arab foreign ministers also called on the international community to immediately intervene to ensure the international protection of Palestinian civilians from the crimes of the Israeli occupation forces and to demand the Security Council to carry out its resolutions related to the protection of Palestinian people.
