King attends ceremony to mark 50th anniversary of the Karamah Battle

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), on Sunday attended a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the Karamah Battle at the southern Shuna district in the Jordan Valley.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was received with a military reception that included a 21-gun salute and reviewed the guard of honour in the presence of Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The King was also received at the site by several Royal Family members, senior officials and officers, as well as former high-ranking military and security personnel.

His Majesty recited verses from the Holy Quran and reviewed the names of the martyrs inscribed on the memorial as well as formations and units that fought in the 1968 battle.


Mufti of the Jordan Armed Forces, Majed Darawsheh, supplicated God the Almighty to rest souls of the Karamah Battle's martyrs in peace.

In his speech, Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Training, Gen. Misleh Tarawneh, spoke about Jordanian soldiers' sacrifices and heroism to defend the homeland.

At this site, we remember martyrs, their bravery, and their steadfastness to achieve a victory and to restore to the nation its glory and dignity, he said.

Jordan, he affirmed, will never capitulate its principles, its identity, and its message whatever the circumstances or the challenges are, and will remain an invincible fortress, which has paid a hefty price in defending this policy politically, socially and economically.

Jordan's stability and security, he vowed, are our top priority and will never let anyone under any pretext to tamper with and challenges triggered by our neighborhood needs our solidarity to thwart enemies' schemes.

Later, the King saw an audio-visual documentary on the battle's playground, operations, and tactics, until the Army achieved an all-out victory on the Israeli aggression.

The King toured the Karamah museum, a facility built the Arab Army, to commemorate the battle's ammunitions and maneuvers and showcases photos on the JAF's heroism.
