Al-Mulki meets Canadian Defense Minister

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minster Hani Al-Mulki on Sunday met visiting Canadian Defense Minister,Harjit Sajjan, and the accompanying delegation.

Talks during the meeting touched on bilateral cooperation, particularly in the defense fields and the latest developments in the Middle East.

Al-Mulki highlighted friendship ties between the two countries and lauded Canada's financial support to the Kingdom.

The premier also stressed the importance of meetings between the two countries' officials and recalled the King's successful and crucial trip to Canada recently.

He briefed the Canadian official on the Kingdom's holistic reforms being currently carried out in the political, economic, social, educational and public sector domains, and the diverse repercussions of the Mideast volatilities on Jordan' economy.

As for the Palestinian cause, Al-Mulki said this issue is central to the Mideast region and stressed the dire need to find a just and comprehensive solution in accordance with the two-state settlement.

Jerusalem, he said, is "an existential political issue" and enjoys the interest of all Arabs and Muslims across the world and should be resolved in the final -status negotiations.

He recalled the King's remarks at the OIC summit on the U.S administration's decision to move its capital to this holy city as "perilous, contravenes international law, threatens Mideast security and stability, undermines aspirations to resume peace talks, and will spark violence and extremism.

The Canadian minister, on his part, highlighted Jordan's key role to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East and lauded the Kingdom's efforts to host Syrian refugees and offer them the necessary services.

He also highlighted the Kingdom's support to his country to host around 40 thousand Syrian refugees in the last few years and stressed Canada's commitment to help build security and stability in the Middle East.

He announced Canada's support to build and renovate a vital road at the Kingdom's northern border with Syria, and added this is a crucial step in his country's cooperation with Jordan, deemed a trusted partner.

He also said Jordan has great contributions in supporting regional security and stability, particularly its tremendous efforts to host refugees, that bolster world peace and prosperity.
