Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Tens of thousands of Jordanians flocked to the streets after Friday prayers across the country to protest the U.S. administration's recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel and the relocation of the U.S. embassy to the holy city.

Raising Jordanian flags and His Majesty the King's pictures, the protestors described the U.S. decision as biased towards the Israeli occupation, considering the United States is no longer a neutral mediator and sponsor of peace in the Middle East region.

Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine, the protestors chanted, commending the stances of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the custodian of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem towards the old city.

In downtown Amman, tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets carrying banners emphasizing their rejection of the U.S. unilateral decision over Jerusalem.

Jerusalem was the theme of Friday prayers' sermons across the Kingdom with preachers stressing the Arab and Muslim identity of the holy city.

Protests were organized in Irbid, Jarash, Karak, Madaba and Ajloun and elsewhere. The protesters said the U.S. president's decision was illegitimate and runs contrary to international law, terming the move as an "assault" on the Palestinian people. They called on the whole world to pressure the U.S. administration to reverse its decision.
