King, Guinean president discuss ties, Mideast issues

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II and President of the Republic of Guinea, Alpha Conde, on Monday held talks on ways to enhance relations between the Kingdom and the Western African nation and regional and international issues.

Welcoming president Conde, the King said the visit was an opportunity to expand relations between the two countries in economic, military and other fields.

"In our discussions, we found that we share many views and discussed what can be done to strengthen our relations", the King said.

"We are facing difficult challenges. We have to deal with Daesh, al-Shabaab and Boko Haram", King Abdullah said, stressing that the problem of terrorism is global and requires a collective effort.

The Guinean leader thanked the King and the Jordanian people for the invitation and warm welcome.

"I am delighted to express to Your Majesty my admiration of what I saw during my visit yesterday to the Al-Hussein Medical Center and the Special Operations Training Center. I was very impressed and I want to congratulate you on this great achievement in your country," President Conde said.

He added that he was particularly impressed with the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Center, established in 2009, and has become a global center in a short period of time.

The Guinean president spoke about a meeting he held yesterday with a number of Jordanian businessmen for a discussion on ways to deepen and advance bilateral relations in the economic sphere.

"I told them that I would ask Your Majesty to kindly open an embassy for Jordan in Guinea to serve as a gateway for your country to all of West Africa," he said.

President Conde also said that he discussed with the Jordanian businessmen prospects for holding a joint ministerial meeting to identify areas that could expand cooperation between the two countries.

He said he welcomes Jordanian businessmen in Conakry to prepare for an economic forum between Guinea and Jordan in the near future.

The King and the Guinean president held plenary talks, which focused on ways to expand cooperation in a host of areas, including, but not limited to, agriculture, livestock, energy, information technology and pharmaceuticals.

They also tackled prospects for setting up a joint ministerial committee to explore potential areas of cooperation and sign framework agreements aimed at advancing economic ties. The talks emphasized the importance to open channels between businessmen in both countries to explore economic opportunities.

His Majesty and President Conde, who is the current Chairperson of the African Union, discussed ways to bolster Afro-Arab relations in various fields.

The talks also touched on the latest regional and international developments and efforts to reach political solutions to Middle East crises. They also dealt with regional and international efforts to counter terrorism within a holistic strategy.

Top officials from both countries attended the talks, which were held at al Husseiniyeh Palace.
