Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, and Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abu al-Gheit, Sunday, discussed preparations for an upcoming Arab summit which kicks off later this month.

In a joint press conference, Safadi said: "We reviewed arrangements that have been taken to ensure the success of the high-profile meeting". He said His Majesty King Abdullah II wants the summit to be a platform for a frank Arab dialogue on how to deal with issues and crises besetting the region and about means to enhance joint Arab action so as to guarantee our ability to serve the interests of the Arab nation and realize aspirations of our Arab peoples.

"Preparations for the meeting are being taken in a brotherly partnership and they are a joint effort between Jordan, as a host country, and the Arab League", said the minister while emphasizing that the outcome of this coordination will be demonstrated clearly on the success which will achieved when the summit takes place.

Responding to a question on the possibilities of Syria's participation in the summit meeting, he said:" Jordan is the host of the meeting and the issue of invitations comes from the Arab League's resolutions, to which we adhere". "The decision of the Arab League was not to invite Syria and therefore an invitation will not be extended to it, Safadi added.

For his part, Abu al-Gheit said the purpose of his visit was to submit a report to HM King Abdullah and Jordanian officials on the topics which will be tackled during the summit.

He expressed hope that the summit would issue an important announcement that will have an impact and a future perspective on how Arab conditions would be.

In his response to a question on Iranian interference, he said:" This issue gains great attention by representatives, ministers and even the summit itself. Over recent years, there was a clear stance by Arab summits and ministerial meetings on the issue, demanding Iran to halt its actions regarding violating some countries sovereignty".
