Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman al-Safadi, on Saturday, held talks with the foreign ministers of France and Italy, focusing on ties between the Jordan and the two European nations and a number of Middle East issues, including the Syrian crisis and peacemaking efforts.

Al-Safadi and French Foreign Minister, Jean-Marc Ayrault, discussed efforts to break the deadlock in peacemaking and re-launch Palestinian-Israeli negotiations. In this context, Al-Safadi said the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is the source of tension in the region, which, he said, will never enjoy peace and stability without resolving this conflict in a manner that fulfills the Palestinian people's rights to freedom and statehood.

During his meeting with the Italian Foreign Minister, Angelino Alfano, Al-Safadi shed light on burdens being borne by Jordan as a result of hosting more than 1.3 million refugees. He said assisting Jordan in shouldering the refugee burden is an investment in the whole world's future.

The minister, who is taking part in Munich Security Conference, also met with Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and discussed with him the refugee issue and counterterror efforts.

Al-Safadi also met with UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura for a discussion on the Syrian crisis and the importance of the Astana meetings.
