King, Slovenian President hold talks on ties, region

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II and Slovenian President, Borut Pahor, on Sunday, underlined the importance of boosting ties in economic, trade and investment fields between Jordan and Slovenia.

The Talks, held in the Al Husseinya Palace, focused on cooperation in the sectors of alternative and renewable energy, information technology, water, medical tourism, agriculture, and military industries.

They also dealt with a number of Middle East issues, namely the Syrian crisis and the war on terrorism.

During bilateral talks, followed by a plenary meeting, His Majesty the King welcomed President Pahor to the Kingdom, and said the meeting is very important and serves as an opportunity to build stronger relations between the two countries.

The King added: "I visited your country for some time, and I think that we share a lot of common bonds, and your visit to Jordan will be an opportunity to strengthen the already good political relations, and discuss economic opportunities, especially in light of the challenges we face." King Abdullah said Jordan is looking forward to cooperating with Slovenia in the security and defense field "to move together in addressing common challenges that confront us." The Slovenian President Slovenian President called for further efforts to benefit from economic opportunities, pointing out that "your country's gone through challenges due to security conditions in the region, and we've gone through tough times as a result of the global financial crisis, and I think its a very good time to do everything we can to stimulate economic relations." He added: "We are keen to have friends in all countries of the world, and we find in you Your Majesty a true friend, and I would like to deepen the friendship between us, between our two countries and our two peoples. This is very important for the future of the two countries and the two peoples. Having friends all over the world, enables us to communicate easily to exchange views, provide support and share inspiring ideas. I am very pleased to have such a friendship with you." President Pahor spoke about his visit to the Al Zaatari refugee camp, and said: "You are doing a great job. The size of the camp close to the size of the third largest city in our country. It is being managed in a good way and the people there feel good. I haven never seen a refugee camp being run in this organized way." He added: "I would like to thank you for the great humanitarian work you are doing, as the leader of your country, a leader who seeks peace in the whole region and for the future." The talks highlighted the importance of building on agreements and memoranda of understanding between Jordan and Slovenia, which are also linked by a joint business council, to boost cooperation and establish joint investment projects, especially in light of the growing Jordanian-Slovenian relations, during the recent years.

King Abdullah said there is a great potential for strengthening economic relations and trade exchange between the two countries, pointing to the possibility of taking advantage of investment opportunities in Jordan and of the free trade agreements Jordan has with a number of countries in the world, as well as exchanging visits between the private sector in both countries.

During the talks, the two leaders stressed the importance of activating the memorandum of understanding between the port of Aqaba and the Slovenian port of Koper, in order to make the Kingdom a gateway to the markets of the region, and turn Slovenia into a trade hub with the Middle East.

The two leaders talked about regional and international efforts to fight terrorism, as His Majesty emphasized that a applying a holistic approach is critical to counter terrorism, which threatens everybody in the Middle East and the world.

The Slovenian President said: "We highly appreciate Your Majesty's pursuit to achieve peace and stability in the region, and what I hope is to bring together the international community to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis," adding: "Despite the challenges that face our two regions, we must work together to strengthen cooperation between us." President Pahor said the Jordanian Slovenian businessmen forum, to be held in Amman, constitutes an opportunity to build business relationships and partnerships between the private sectors in both countries.
