Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - A golden mummy mask was handed over to the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities by a French-Egyptian citizen due to his “sense of belonging and loyalty to his home country, Egypt,” State-owned news site, Ahram Online reported on Thursday.

Shehab al-Farouk Omar said that a friend had gifted him the mask on his son’s birthday.

The general supervisor of the antiquities repatriation department described the act as a symbol of good will calling on others in possession of stolen artefacts to take a leaf out of Farouk’s book to preserve Egypt’s cultural and archaeological heritage.

The mask is now at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square and will be checked for authenticity.
