Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Nasser Judeh, took part in the annual coordination meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organisation for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was held in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The meeting tackled issues on the agenda of the pan-Islamic organisation, including developments in the Middle East, the fight against terrorism in addition to OIC organisational matters.

The foreign minister called for solidarity among Islamic countries, stressing that such unity would give resilience to "our Islamic world in countering the grave humanitarian and security challenges facing us today".

He said solidarity among the peoples of the Muslim world is an efficient tool to explore scopes for cooperation in developmental, economic, scientific and innovational spheres.

Judeh pointed out that the OIC is now growing more important than ever, particularly with the spread of the danger of khwarej (outlaws of Islam) and their terrorist gangs that deliberately hijack and distort Islam and its civilization, which triggers anti-Muslim sentiment, terrorism and negative stereotypes across the world.

He urged Muslim countries, as influential members of the world community, to work together to counter terrorism within a unified military, security, intellectual and ideological strategy, noting that Jordan will be in the vanguard of any international and regional effort to confront terrorist gangs and violent extremism.

The minister said Jordan had early recognised the importance of enlightenment and the need to highlight the Islamic approach based on the respect of diversity, dialogue, openness and moderation.
