Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Prime Minister Hani Mulki on Thursday, received European Union Observation Mission (EOM) Chief Observer and member of the European Parliament, Jo Leinen and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Musa Maayteh and State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani.

Head of the EOM said the mission held a press conference in Amman on Thursday in which it praised the elections process, saying it was well administrated and inclusive.

He stressed that the Kingdom's parliamentary elections were an important step on the path of political reform, adding that the mission has monitored the polls since the beginning of the election campaigns and voting, until the announcement of the results.

Leinen voiced thanks and appreciation for the invitation it had received from the Independent Election Commission to monitor the polls for the second time.

Mulki said that Jordan, under the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, was keen to hold the parliamentary elections despite the current situation in the region, noting that the government did not interfere in the elections, and that its role was restricted to providing support to the IEC, that administered the electoral process.

"The partnership between the government and the IEC was excellent, and we look forward to holding municipal and governorate councils elections next year in the same fair and transparent manner, the prime minister added.
