Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Senate President Faisal Al Fayez said that refugees and immigration are two of the main issues which the world is suffering from today.

He added that these problems, which are the result of conflicts, crises and instability in the Middle East, are expected to escalate.

Addressing the European Conference of Presidents of Parliaments in Strasbourg, which concludes tomorrow, Al Fayez delivered a keynote address on Jordan's vision on the latest developments in the Middle East, mainly the Palestinian issue and the Syrian crisis. Al Fayez will also speak about the Kingdom's vision towards solving the refugees crisis, fighting terrorism and extremism, eliminating the rhetoric of hatred and boosting coexistence.

Al Fayez noted that the ongoing crises and instability in the Middle East have become a threat to global safety and stability. The international community in general, and the EU in particular, did not pay attention to the immigration and refugees crises until they started to affect them, he noted.

The Senate president also spoke about Jordan as an oasis of stability in volatile region, noting that this was achieved thanks to the wise leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II as well as the awareness of the Jordanian people and alertness of the Jordan Armed Forces.

He also called on the international community to support Jordan to help it continue to provide aid and assistance to hundreds of thousands of refugees.

The Senate president also reiterated the key role played by parliaments to fight terrorism, adding that this starts by recognizing that terrorism is a serious threat and by pushing governments to take practical steps to fight and eliminate terrorism and terrorist organizations.
