Tarawneh: Fourteen human trafficking cases registered in first half of 2016

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The government's coordinator on human rights, Basil Tarawneh said that the Public Security Department’s (PSD) Anti- Human Trafficking Unit dealt with 197 cases including 14 cases on human trafficking in the first half of 2016.

In a statement to Petra on the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Tarawneh said that 183 cases of these did not reach the level of human trafficking, noting that number of people who have been provided with shelter during this period stood at 112 including 12 who were victims of human trafficking.

Tarawneh said that the Karamah shelter, which is affiliated to the Ministry of Social Development, underwent rehabilitation work to house human trafficking victims in Jordan, noting that a new national plan has been set up to prevent human trafficking.

"The Anti- Human Trafficking Unit held 8 workshops on fighting this phenomenon in cooperation with government and non-government organizations in addition to 42 awareness lectures by specialists at universities and schools on human trafficking and its impact negative impact on the society," he added.
