Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Lower House of Parliament, on Saturday, called on the international to rise to its ethical and humanitarian responsibilities and extend additional financial support to Jordan, which has been buckling under enormous pressure arising from a massive Syrian refugee crisis.

House's Deputy Speaker, Khamis Attyah, told the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean that Jordan hosts, on behalf of the whole world, 1.4 million Syrian refugees on its territory, making up almost 20 per cent of the population.

He pointed out that such number of refugees continues to place heavy pressures of Jordan's already-strained resources, infrastructure and economy, saying it's incumbent upon the world to provide the Kingdom with adequate support to help grapple with this burden.
