Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Ali said Tuesday that the government is seeking to open new markets in Africa and Europe after Jordanian exports to traditional regional markets were severely affected by the raging wars.

The minister was briefing the Jordan Chamber of Commerce's board on an economic package the government had approved to prop up the industrial sector and boost the economy that had been hit hard by the conflicts in the region.

A ministry statement said the government is keen to support the various economic sectors, particularly during the current period in which the economy had incurred huge damage by the turmoil in Syria and Iraq. The wars in the two countries, she said, had largely curtailed exports to them and other markets, where exports had access by transit from Syria.

She said that as part of the national strategy, all ministries and public departments had been instructed to give special privileges to the local industry and also reduced the tax on cosmetics from 25% to 8%.
