Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Wednesday, held talks with members of the British parliament’s committees on foreign affairs, defense and security and a number of political figures and intellectuals.

The talks dealt with the latest developments in the Middle East, namely the ongoing crisis in Syria, the fight against terrorism, efforts to achieve peace in the region and the donors’ conference which will open tomorrow in London.

The King spoke to the British parliamentarians about burdens being borne by Jordan as a result of hosting a massive influx of more than 1.3 Syrian refugees on its territory.

His Majesty said he hopes tomorrow’s conference comes up with decisions enabling Jordan to grapple with the refugee crisis through supporting economic and development project that would mitigate the impact of the crisis.

He emphasized that it was time for the international community, the European Union and regional and international organizations to extend an adequate and appropriate support to Jordan whose capacities have been stretched because of the refugee crisis.

In this context, the King thanked Britain for the assistance it has provided to help Jordan offer humanitarian services to the refugees. Speaking on regional issues, namely Syria, King Abdullah renewed Jordan’s call for finding a political and comprehensive solution to the crisis in Syria to put an end to the war in that Arab country and warned that the failure to do so threatens to send out more Syrian refugees.

With regards to anti-terror efforts, His Majesty stressed that the war against terrorism and terrorist gangs should be stepped up within a holistic approach and warned that terror targets the entire world.

King Abdullah said more international efforts are needed to revive peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution.

He warned that the failure to restart peace negotiations risks to fuel violence and make the Palestinian cause a pretext used by terrorist organizations to carry out their agendas.

The meeting touched on the latest developments in Iraq and Libya and other regional countries.

The British lawmakers commended Jordan’s endeavors, spearheaded by King Abdullah II, to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East as well as services the Kingdom extends to hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees despite limited resources.
