King meets Jordanian-Japanese Parliamentary Friendship Committee

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday, continued his working visit to the Japanese capital Tokyo, by meeting chairman and members of the Jordanian-Japanese Parliamentary Friendship Committee.

During the meeting, which was attended by HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein and HRH Prince Ghazi bin Mohammed, King's Special Envoy and Senior Advisor for Religious and Cultural Affairs, the two sides reviewed bilateral cooperation and ways to improve them in various fields, as well as the latest global and regional developments.

His Majesty stressed the depth of Jordanian-Japanese relations, which started since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1954, praising Japan’s role in supporting the development plans and projects in the Kingdom.

The King affirmed the need to sustain coordination and consultation between the two brotherly countries on various issues of common interest, adding that the Joint Parliamentary committees can play a vital role in this regard.

King Abdullah II reviewed the comprehensive reforms carried out by Jordan that aim at enhancing democracy, transparency and public participation in decision making.

The Monarch also stressed the importance of exchanging expertise in the area of legislation and censorship between the two legislative bodies in both countries, especially that Japan has a pioneering democratic and parliamentary experience in this field .

On efforts to achieve peace between Palestinians and Israelis, the King urged all the concerned parties as well as the international community to support the efforts aiming at achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region based on the two-state solution, international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on their national soil .
