Brotherhood urges Jordan to counter Israel's Aqsa 'violations'

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - The Islamic Action Front, the political arm of Jordan's Muslim Brotherhood, has called on the Jordanian government to take "firm decisions" against Israeli "violations" in the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.

"The government should take swift and decisive measures against the arrogance of the Zionist (Israeli) entity," party secretary-general Mohamed Al-Zayoud said in a message to Jordanian Premier Abdullah Ensour posted on the party's website.

He urged Jordanian authorities to threaten to abolish a 1996 peace deal with Israel and expel the Israeli ambassador "as first steps to pressure the Zionist entity".

Israel has recently stepped up restrictions on Muslim worshippers' access to Al-Aqsa Mosque while facilitating incursions into the site by Jewish settlers, according to the Palestinian Islamic Endowments Authority.

For Muslims, Al-Aqsa represents the world's third holiest site. Jews, for their part, refer to the area as the "Temple Mount," claiming it was the site of two prominent Jewish temples in ancient times.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Middle East War. It later annexed the holy city in 1980, claiming Jerusalem as the unified capital of the self-proclaimed Jewish state – a move never recognized by the international community.
