Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Israel's ongoing airstrikes against the Gaza Strip on Saturday killed 35 Palestinians, bringing the death toll to 900.

Minutes before a 12-hour humanitarian ceasefire went into effect in the enclave, an Israeli airstrike left at least 20 members of a single Palestinian family dead in the Khan Younis refugee camp, Palestinian sources reported.

The al-Najjar family had fled their homes on Saturday morning in Khuzaa, east of Khan Younis, hoping to find shelter somewhere further from the border, the sources added.

Palestinian medical staff were also injured as Israel hit Beit Hanoun Hospital in the northern strip, causing great damage to its facilities.

A 12-hour ceasefire came into force in the Gaza Strip at 8 a.m. on Saturday to allow civilians in Gaza to receive aid and evacuate to safer areas.

Israelis and Palestinians said they would observe the temporary ceasefire, after US Secretary of State John Kerry was unable to reach a truce agreement during talks Friday in Cairo.
