Jordan's ambassador to Libya kidnapped after gunmen attack his car

Ammon News - Ammonnews - Jordan's ambassador to Libya was kidnapped on Tuesday morning after masked gunmen attacked his car and shot his driver, a spokesman for Libya's foreign ministry said.

The driver survived the attack and was in hospital, spokesman Said Laswad said.

Sabah al-Rafie, the spokeswoman for the Jordanian Foreign Ministry, confirmed the kidnapping. She had no further details but said the Jordanian government was following the matter closely with the Libyan authorities.

Libya's Foreign Ministry's spokesman Said al-Aswad says several masked gunmen in civilian clothes and in two cars attacked the car of Ambassador Fawaz al-Etan on Tuesday morning in Tripoli.

Al-Aswad says the assailants opened fire at the ambassador's vehicle, wounding his driver and forcing al-Etan out at gunpoint.
