AMMONNEWS - A Jordanian Islamist leader on Friday said that U.S. President Barack Obama's visit to Jordan is not "respected or accepted" by Jordanians.

During a demonstration in Amman Friday evening organized by the Jordanian Islamist movement ahead of Obama's arrival to Jordan, Head of the Shura Council of the Islamic Action Front, the political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, Ali Abu Sukkar questioned Obama's right to ask Palestinians to recognize the Jewish state.

"What gives Obama the right to ask Palestinians and Arabs to recognize the Jewish state on the land of Palestine?", Abu Sukkar said, adding that "Palestine belongs to Palestinians and the Arab Ummah."

"Obama comprehends that most Jordanians despise the American administration's policies, and rejects U.S. policies biased towards the Zionist entity," he added in statements to Ammon News during the demonstration.

The protest, held on the anniversary of the 1968 Battle of Karamah, carried the banner "Let us do something towards Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa" and witnessed chants against US policies in the region.

"The battle of Karamah means a great deal to Jordanians and Arabs, where Jordanian and Palestinian soldiers sacrificed their lives at the walls Jerusalem so that Palestine remains part of the Arab Ummah," Abu Sukkar stressed.

President Obama arrived in Amman Friday evening on a two-day visit in part of a regional tour that included Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Obama is scheduled to hold talks with King Abdullah II to discuss bilateral relations, the peace process, and the escalating crisis in Syria.

Obama arrived in Amman following meetings he held with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Tel Aviv and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah.
