Two die in Aqaba cloudburst

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Two people, a man and a girl, died Sunday when a heavy downpour triggered massive flash floods in the port city of Aqaba in southern Jordan.

Medics said a 10-year-old girl and a 55-year-old man arrived dead at the Prince Haya hospital after they were washed away by floods caused by a powerful thunderstorm.

The northern parts of the city were inundated by the floods which also forced the closure of main roads. Authorities were evacuating families whose houses were flooded by rainwater.

Traffic police reported that some roads see high level of water coming from the city's northern mountains. Rescue crews said they are working round-the-clock to deal with situation.
