Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - In reaction to media reports of the presence of foreign military forces in the country, Jordan's Islamist movement called for the ouster of these forces, considering that their presence infringes o Jordan's national sovereignty.

In statements issued on Monday, Secretary General of the Islamic Action Front Hamzeh Mansour called for the ouster of American and British, and all other foreign forces and consultants who are in Jordan for the purpose of dealing with threats of Syrian regime's use of chemical weapons.

The opposition political party rejects the presence of foreign forces on Jordanian land, as an infringement on national sovereignty. It stressed instead that the priority should be seeking the support of regional powers.

"Jordanians and their fellow Arabs are capable of defending themselves against the threats of Bashar Al-Assad's regime," Mansour said, noting that seeking the support of foreign powers is "unsound."

The statements came in response to Western media outlets reporting that US military sources sent special forces to Jordan in part of an American plan to prevent Assad from using chemical and biological weapons against the uprising there, and to prevent the weapons from falling into the hands of terrorists.

The media reports, also substantiated by British media reports of presence of British forces, said that these forces are carrying out regular training missions with Jordanian forces near the Jordanian-Syrian border.
