06-08-2012 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Human rights status in Jordan has improved well and correctional facilities are free of torture, said the Kingdom's watchdog in an annual report.

Commissioner-General of the National Center for Human Rights NCHR, Mousa Breizat, said on Sunday that there is a problem in detention centers and during security raids.

He added, while announcing the 8th edition of the center's annual report, that there were no interference or attempts by any party to influence the center or interfere in its mandate. The center expressed concern over continued torture-related complaints against law enforcement employees and bodies. However, the number of overall complaints dropped significantly, the report noted.

It called for launching immediate and fair in all torture-related and ill-treatment cases for prisoners and detainees and hold those responsible accountable.
