Ammon News - AMMONNEWS--ahead of World Refugee Day,United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR ) with the support of the Ministry of Tourism will light up the Citadel in Blue Wednesday evening to celebrate the event.

UNHCR issued a press release saying "The people of Jordan have set the tone and inspiration for World Refugee Day 2012, celebrated across the globe each year on June 20th. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has always been at the forefront of international humanitarian efforts related to humanitarian displacement, often taking on more responsibilities than could possibly be expected. Jordan, which has already provided protection and assistance to persons fleeing conflict from the date of its inception, continues to be a role model not only for the region but also internationally.

Since June 2011, an inspiring response has been witnessed from the Government and people of Jordan toward those in need, who at a time of economic hardship have shown hospitality and generosity on the world stage. UNHCR will endeavor to place Jordan in the international spot light by illuminating the iconic Citadel in blue on the evening of June 20th.

Furthermore, UNHCR and partners are marking World Refugee Day 2012 with a campaign focusing on the both our persons of concern and the communities in which they are living, with 10 Quick Impact Projects underway in Mafraq, Maan and in Karak focused on the provision of water tanks and waste management, with many more such projects to be rolled out over the coming months.

UNHCR Jordan would like to sincerely thank the Government and people of Jordan for their kindness and generosity shown toward those in need. "
