Dahabi pleads innocent to graft

[6/16/2012 12:00:00 AM]

AMMONNEWS -The former Jordanian intelligence chief Mohammad Dahabi has pleaded “not guilty’’ to charges of money laundering, embezzling public funds and abuse of office.

Dahabi appeared before the court on Thursday facing graft charges.

Few details have been released on the accusations against Mohammed al-Dahabi, who ran the General Intelligence Department between 2005 and 2008. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years imprisonment.

He was arrested in February, when inspectors from the Central Bank of Jordan suspected transactions worth millions of dollars had gone through his bank account.

Of course Dahabi, like other corrupt people, would plead "not guilty" to charges of money laundering, embezzling public funds and abuse of office. But the above charges against Dahabi are peanuts compared to the Florida court guilty verdict against Dahabi and his "associates". Ammonnews was courageous when few months ago it published the detailed verdict in which Mohamad Salih! won the case against an American tycoon, Dahabi and the royal court. Documents used in the verdict proved that Dahabi and the royal court! shared $10 millions paid to them by the American guy in return for using Jordan to transport oil to the US troops in Al-Anbar province. That was violation of Jordan's sovereignty and territorial integrity!? If the documents and evidence in the Mohamad Salih's case were true, then Dahabi and "associates" have committed TREASON against Jordan! Is it possible for "someone" in Jordan to open the Salih case in a civilian court?
