Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Wednesday held talks with UN-Arab League Envoy to Syria Kofi Annan on the latest developments in Syria.

Annan briefed Judeh on the outcome of his visit to Damascus yesterday and his meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The UN diplomat expressed appreciation for Jordan's role in dealing with the humanitarian repercussions of the Syrian crisis.

The two officials stressed the importance of an immediate end to the bloodshed and violence in Syria. They also agreed to continue coordination, consultation and cooperation to ensure the success of Annan's mission.

In press statements following the meeting, the foreign minister described the meeting as "very fruitful". Judeh added that he was briefed by Annan on the latest developments in Syria and the latter's talks with the Syrian leadership on the implementation of the plan. The UN envoy talks also touched on the Houla massacre and targeting civilians. Judeh affirmed Jordan's "absolute rejection of this".

He added: "We discussed and exchanged views on the expected steps, especially as we, in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, believe that the required solution is a political one that guarantees the unity of Syria and the safety of its people." Annan, on his part, described the Syrian crisis as a "complicated issue" that receives great attention from the region and the world.

He noted efforts to find a solution to the crisis and stop the suffering of the Syrian people, stressing the importance of giving priority to the protection of civilians in Syria.

Annan called for concerted efforts and cooperation with various agencies and countries to cope with the situation and find ways to stop the killing in the country.
