British diplomat hails Jordan's peace efforts

16-05-2012 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - British Foreign office spokeswoman Rosemary Davis hailed efforts exerted by Jordan to encourage the Palestinians and Israelis to return to the negotiating table.

During a press conference at the residence of the British ambassador in Amman, Davis voiced hope that an agreement on Palestinians detainees in Israeli jails will renew confidence between the two sides.

The British diplomat condemned the continued Israeli settlement policy and urged the Israeli government to revoke decisions to build new settlements in the occupied Palestinian lands.

On Syria, she said the situation in the country is extremely grave, adding there were no evidence that the Syrian regime was implementing Kofi Annan's plan.

The British official voiced hope that Jordanian detainee in Britain Abu Qatada would receive fair trial once he returns back to Jordan, pointing to an agreement between the two countries on this issue.
