Jobless youth stage protest in Madaba

12-05-2012 12:00 AM

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Dozens of unemployed youth staged a sit-in in the centre of Madaba south of Amman to urge the government of Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh to provide jobs for them.

They demanded in a statement signed by the Azaydeh Youth Movement that the government return state land claimed by Jordanian tribes and the refunding of "bourse money" that thousands of Jordanians had lost to forged investment firms or private bourse companies in past years.

The protesters stressed that they were not affiliated with any political or partisan group.

Chronic unemployment, that had risen in recent years, and poverty are the Kingdom's two major woes that daunted successive governments. Tarawneh had pledged that his government would work to address economic problems and raise living standards as directed by the royal letter of designation
