Dana Tai Soon Burgess contemporary dance group

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS – The U.S. Embassy is hosting the Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Company contemporary dance group in Jordan as part of the annual Zakharef in Motion Festival on May 6 – 14. The group will conduct a public performance on Monday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Al Hussein Cultural Center, Ras El Ein. The Dana Tai Soon group is also holding outreach events at Petra and Yarmouk Universities in addition to workshops with local dancers and students in Tafileh; and at Princess Basma Youth Resource Centre (PBYRC). The annual Zakharef in Motion festival is being held in collaboration with diplomatic embassies, cultural institutions, the Jordanian government; and the private sector.

Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Company is a non-profit modern dance company that was established in 1992 as Moving Forward: Contemporary Asian American Dance Company. Its mission is to and present dance with an Asian American aesthetic. Dana Burgess taught at several dance academies including the Kirov Academy of Ballet of Washington and the Washington Ballet. Burgess became Director of Georgetown University's dance program in 1994 and he was offered a professorship at George Washington University in 2000; where he currently serves as Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance.

The U.S. Embassy has been sponsoring dance ensembles for the Jordanian based Zakharef in Motion festival since 2008.
