Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah on Sunday attended a ceremony marking the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the King Abdullah II Fund for Development (KAFD), which has served more than 1.6 million people across the Kingdom.

During the ceremony, also attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania and HRH Princess Sumaya, the King honoured public, private and civil society institutions that have supported the fund.

The King presented awards to two teams from the Samma Comprehensive School for Girls and the Ahliyyah School for Girls who won a competition organised by KAFD in which participating students, aged between 15 and 17, designed applications for mobile devices.

Their Majesties watched a presentation on KAFD’s achievements and a short film on the success stories of its beneficiaries.

KAFD’s projects include scholarship programmes for Jordanian students in the Kingdom and abroad in various specialisations, empowering retired military personnel by training them in the skills needed by the labour market, supporting agriculture and home-based income-generating projects, empowering young people, and supporting owners of pilot projects.

Nasser Lozi, chairman of the KAFD board of trustees, said the fund will continue to carry out its projects to empower young people and enhance the living conditions of citizens.

KAFD was established by a Royal Decree in 2001 as an NGO to support the local community by driving human and infrastructure development.

The fund works to further develop key sectors in Jordan and improve local standards of living for all segments of the community through initiatives targeting individuals as well as the public, private and civil society sectors, according to its website.
