Ammon News - AMMONNEWS – The Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told the Knesset Monday that talk about Jordan as the Palestinian state works against Israeli interests and "contradicts reality."
"The statement that Jordan is Palestinian is opposed to international law and the peace treaty we signed with Jordan," Lieberman told the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
"A Palestinian state will be an extremist one that will undermine stability in the entire region." He said.
"Countries enjoy the fruits of peace, the stability of peace and the economy," Lieberman explained. "We expect that the Jordanian ambassador will be returned to Israel shortly," he added.
He stated that the Jordanian ambassador to Israel, who was recalled after the Cast Lead campaign in Gaza, has ended his term of service and a replacement has never been appointed.
Lieberman specifically attacked MK Aryeh Eldad (National Union) for touting the "Jordan is Palestine" plan.
Eldad responded, saying that "Lieberman is burying his head in the sand and he must know that If Israel does not prepare a diplomatic plan for Arab Spring it will miss the "greatest historic opportunity" since the Oslo" disaster" to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state west of the Jordan River.
